I’m watching my little boy play with his collection of toy animals. He has his dinosaurs, sharks, horses and cows all on display on our dining room table. Upstairs, I hear my 1-year old daughter giggling as her dad gets her from her crib.
These are the moments of life. I’m so grateful for my wonderful family life. What makes it even sweeter is that my own childhood wasn’t so rosy. My father was absent from my life. I was 2 years old when my parents separated and 4 when my parents divorced. That was the last time I saw my father as a child. We reconnected when I was 23 and I’ve more or less made my peace with him.
But seeing my husband in the role of a great father warms me to my core and fills me with love.
On this Father’s Day I just want to send out wonderful wishes to all the dads, step-dads and grand-dads. This past week I reported on CNN on a couple of dads in Washington, DC who were honored by the White House as part of a new initiative called “Fatherhood Buzz.” It’s really a call and a tribute to all dads. Happy Father’s Day
